Prime™ Vision Eye Health Formula

  Promotes healthy vision
Helps support healthy eye tissue and blood flow
  Promotes healthy macular density
Helps to maintain eye health as you age
Uses recommended amounts of FloraGlo® lutein and zeaxanthin, as used in the AREDS2 study

The nutrient combination used in Prime Vision Eye Health Formula represents the second generation of the highly recognized and respected AREDS 2 study, a multi-year research project dedicated to finding a nutritional solution for maintaining healthy eyes in aging adults. This widely researched and carefully compiled formula contains the same ingredients in identical amounts as those used in the AREDS2 study.

Vision Formula with Lutein is an isotonic-capable dietary supplement. It is a comprehensive combination of vitamins and minerals with lutein, quercetin, eyebright, zeaxanthin and bilberry, all of which research has shown promote healthy vision.
The Lutein and Zeaxanthin act as antioxidants to protect the eye from free radical damage. They promote pigment density, a critical factor in the health of the macula and retina in relation to the clarity of the lens. Quercetin, a bioflavonoid, is an excellent antioxidant that helps to maintain lens transparency and has been shown to inhibit the enzyme, aldose reductase, which has a connection to poor eye health. These nutrients also help with the structural integrity of blood vessels and capillaries, that maintain the membranes of cone cells in the eyes and promotes healthy oxygen and nutrient flow to the eyes.
The antioxidant properties of this vision formula help protect the eyes from oxidative stress. Our eyes have the highest concentration of antioxidants in the entire body so it is critical to maintain a diet high in antioxidants to fight off the damage that free radicals can cause to our vision as we age.

National Eye Institute – October 12, 2006

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announces a nationwide study to see if a modified combination of vitamins, minerals, and fish oil can further slow the progression of vision loss from AMD, the leading cause of vision loss in the United States for people over age 60. This new study, called the Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS2), will build upon results from the earlier Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS). The original study results were released five years ago today. The study found that high-dose antioxidant vitamins and minerals (vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, zinc, and copper), taken by mouth, reduced the risk of progression to advanced AMD by 25 percent, and the risk of moderate vision loss by 19 percent.
AREDS2 will refine the findings of the original study by adding lutein and zeaxanthin (plant-derived yellow pigments that accumulate in the macula, the small area responsible for central vision near the center of the retina) and the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA (derived from fish oils) to the study formulation. The main study objective is to determine if these nutrients will decrease a person’s risk of progression to advanced AMD, which often leads to vision loss. Previous observational studies have suggested these nutrients may protect vision.

Prime™ Astaxanthin Cardio and Visual Vitality Formula

Astaxanthin is a carotenoid in the class of plant compounds called xanthophylls. It is found naturally in the alga Haematococcus pluvialis, which is consumed by marine life such as lobster, shrimp,Prime and salmon and gives them their reddish color.

The carotenoid works by improving blood flow to the muscles that control accommodation (focusing the eyes on objects at different distances, as when you shift from distance vision to close work and back again) in the eye, as well as to the small blood vessels in the retina. Astaxanthin also provides exceptional anti-inflammatory properties. This antioxidant has an unusual structure that allows it to trap free radicals and prevent damage from oxidation.

Eye fatigue, also known as asthenopia, is a major complaint for those who spend hours in front of a computer or who spend a lot of time in the sun. Asthenopia is characterized by eye weakness, irritated eyes, and sensitivity to glare, poor depth perception and poor accommodation. The results of several studies show that astaxanthin is highly effective in relieving symptoms of asthenopia. In one randomized, placebo-controlled study conducted in Japan researchers found that people who work on computer monitors had a 54 percent reduction in eye fatigue and experienced improvements in accommodation when they took 6 mg astaxanthin per day for four weeks compared with individuals who took a placebo.

Astaxanthin may also be helpful for other eye conditions. Studies show that xanthophylls are associated with a lower risk of cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, and uveitis, a form of eye inflammation.
Astaxanthin, along with other xanthophylls such as lutein and zeaxanthin, are beneficial for eye health because of their antioxidant properties and their ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. Current tests show that doses of astaxanthin ranging from 4 to 12 mg daily are effective for symptoms of eyestrain without causing side effects.

Many health-care practitioners recommend taking at least 6 mg daily of astaxanthin for eye health. I choose to use the Prime™ Astaxanthin Cardio and Visual Vitality Formula because it is guaranteed for high quality and stability. AstaReal® Astaxanthin ranks among the purest and most powerful antioxidants available. AstaReal® uses precision cultivation techniques in state-of the-art facilities to produce only 100 percent natural astaxanthin in a purified, sterile environment. Some companies are sourcing their astaxanthin to growers who use natural lakes or outdoor artificial ponds called open-pond raceways which can contain unwanted contaminants from pesticides.

Typical astaxanthin formulations contain only 2-4 mg per serving — an amount which falls short of delivering all possible benefits for the heart, eyes, skin and muscles. Prime Astaxanthin Cardio & Visual Vitality Formula is made exclusively in a 6 mg dose, which is superior for promoting optimal cardiovascular function, supporting healthy vision and skin, blood flow and muscular endurance.

“I am very impressed with this new formula and have personally added it to my nutritional regimen. Like so many baby boomers I have noticed a need for help with my close up vision and feel eye fatigue when working on the computer or reading for any length of time. It has only been 2 months since I started the Primeä Vision Eye Health Formula but I am already noticing a vast improvement. My eyes feel more rested and definitely less irritated. Lutein is one of only two carotenoids specifically located in the macula of the eye. FloraGLO Lutein is the source of lutein chosen by the investigators of the AREDS2 study. Zeaxanthin which is the other carotenoid used in the study is loaded with powerful antioxidant that is found in the retina. As an antioxidant, it serves to protect the eye from free radicals. Much scientific evidence suggests that zeaxanthin is beneficial for eye health and may promote healthy macular density.
